Q: When can I claim my tax back?
A: Either at the end of the financial year (April 5th), or when you have finished work and won't be working again in that financial year.
Q: I worked in the UK several years ago, can I claim a refund?
A: Yes, you are entitled to claim a refund from the UK government for 6 years after the year that you worked in the UK. If you have worked in the UK between 2001 and 2008, we can still claim a refund for you.
Q: How does the Sos Taxes service work?
A: It’s easy. Here’s how:
1. Simply fill out our brief form (it takes 5 minutes) and send us your P45 or P60 from each of your employers.
2. We will contact you immediately with a free refund calculation. Then, if you choose to use our service, we will do all the work involved to reclaim your money for you.
Q: Do I get all of my tax back?
A: If you have earned less than £5,225 in the 2007/2008 financial year then you will receive a full tax rebate of tax paid. If you have earned over your tax-free allowance, the amount of your refund will depend on a number of factors including your gross income, the amount of tax deducted and how you apply. As specialists in UK tax refunds, we will guarantee to organise the largest possible refund for you.
Q: If I am not a UK citizen, can I get all my tax back?
A: Yes you can get your tax back according to the result of our tax calculator.
Q: If I make a claim before the end of the tax year, do I have to wait until the end of the tax year to receive my rebate?
A: No. You can claim at any time of the year especially if you intend to leave the UK.
Q: Under what circumstances would I be most likely to get a tax refund?
A: There is more chance of receiving a tax rebate if you are on the wrong tax code, paying emergency tax or have not worked the full tax year.
Q: Can I reclaim my National Insurance contributions?
A: Not in the form of a cash refund. You can transfer a portion of your contributions into a UK private pension, which will mature once you reach retirement age.
Q: What's the difference between a P60, P45 and a CIS25?
A: A P60 is a statement of income and Tax to the end of the Tax Year. You will receive a P60 from your employer in April. A P45 is your Group Certificate received when you finish employment. A CIS25 is a unique Tax Form solely used in the construction industry.
Q: What is your fee?
A: If you choose to use our service, our processing fee for refunds (10% of the refund value) is deducted from your refund cheque so that you don’t have to pay any money out of hand.
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located in London.
Q: What are your opening hours?
A: You can contact us 24 hours a day 365 days a year via email at info@sos-taxes.com or by phone from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on this free number: 0800 180 4936.
Q: Can I only claim for one job if the others were only part time?
A: No you have to declare your entire earnings even if you only work a part time position. All income must be declared to the Inland Revenue.
Q: Can I claim for just one tax year if that’s all I want to claim?
A: Yes, but you will get more money if you claim for your entire work history in the UK.
Q. I won’t get my P45 from my last job until I have left the country can I still lodge my return?
A: Yes we can lodge the claim with the tax office and then forward them the P45 once we receive it.
Q. Can I lodge a tax claim on my friend’s behalf?
A: No you would not be able to sign the forms on his/her behalf. You can always collect the forms for him/her.
Q: How long will it take to receive my UK tax refund?
A: We will obtain your refund for you in the shortest time possible, typically 4 to 12 weeks. The processing time of the UK Tax Authorities varies depending on a number of factors, including the time of year the return is submitted. (If you do not have a permanent NI number or if you do not provide correct information it will take much more). By experience, it takes more time if we proceed for a refund with a statement of earnings as the tax office will double checked everything systematically.
Q: I also worked abroad in other countries, can you help me claim a refund?
A: No, in order to maintain low operation costs we specialise in UK refunds only.
